Dr. Hatice Hasturk is a Full Professor and Director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at the ADA Forsyth Institute. She also holds academic appointments as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Boston University School of Dental Medicine and as a Lecturer at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Hasturk earned her dental degree and Ph.D. in Periodontology from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, and completed her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Periodontology at Boston University. She is a board-certified periodontist who maintains clinical practice alongside her research endeavors.
A leader in translational periodontal research, Dr. Hasturk’s work focuses on the links between periodontitis and systemic inflammatory diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Her research explores the modulation of inflammatory pathways as a therapeutic strategy for periodontal disease. Since the early 2000s, her work has been supported by numerous NIH/NIDCR, industry, and foundation grants. She has authored or co-authored over 143 peer-reviewed publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and holds an h-index of 60.
Dr. Hasturk has been widely recognized for her scientific contributions. Her accolades include the 2016 IADR William Geis Award, the 2020 AAP Clinical Research Award, and the 2020–2021 ADA Norton Ross Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. In 2022, she was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. She is an active member of the IADR, AAP, ADA, European Federation of Periodontology, and International Academy of Periodontology.
