Prof. Dr. Joerg Meyle is a distinguished periodontist and oral surgeon with over four decades of academic, clinical, and international leadership experience. He served as Professor and Director of the Department of Periodontology at the University of Giessen (1994–2023) and currently holds positions as Adjunct Professor at the University of Bern and Honorary Professor at Shandong University and the University of Hong Kong.
He has been a major figure in European periodontology, serving as President of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), Chairman of EuroPerio 4, and Treasurer of the EFP (2013–2019). He is also Past President of the International Academy of Periodontology (IAP) and an Honorary Member of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP).
Dr. Meyle has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 19 book chapters, focusing on periodontitis pathogenesis, anti-infective and regenerative therapies, implant complications, and peri-implantitis. He is also co-editor of Parodontologie since 2000 and serves as a Member of the Editorial Board of several national and international peer-reviewed journals.
