Mark Bartold is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Adelaide. He is a Past-President of the International Academy of Periodontology, the ANZ Division of the IADR, the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology, the IADR Periodontal Research Group and the Division of Periodontics of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is currently a Board member of the International Academy of Periodontology, and Honorary Editor and Board Member of the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology. He has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Australian Dental Journal and the Journal of the International Academy of Periodontology and an Associate Editor of Periodontology 2000 and the Journal of Periodontal Research. His research has focused on the use of stem cells for periodontal regeneration and periodontal/systemic health interrelationships. Professor Bartold has authored over 350 scientific articles. He also works in private specialist periodontal practice. Although retired from the University of Adelaide he continues research collaborations with colleagues at the University of Queensland, University of Malaysia and University of Berne and also maintains a part-time private specialist periodontics practice in Adelaide.
