Dr. Vincent J. Iacono is a Distinguished Service Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontology at Stony Brook University, where he also serves as the Tarrson Family Professor of Periodontology and Director of Advanced Education Programs. He earned his D.M.D. and certificate in periodontology and oral medicine from Harvard University, and holds a certificate in immunology from the Forsyth Institute. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Iacono is an internationally recognized leader in periodontology, with over 100 scientific publications, textbook chapters, and extensive lecturing experience across the U.S. and abroad. His current research focuses on periodontal regeneration and dental implant therapy. He serves as editor of Periodontal Clinic Investigations and sits on the editorial board of Clinical Advances in Periodontics.

Dr. Iacono has held leadership roles across numerous professional organizations, including Past President of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), International Academy of Periodontology, Northeastern Society of Periodontists (NESP), Academy of Osseointegration (AO), and the AAP Foundation. He is also a former Chair of the American Board of Periodontology and Past Periodontics Commissioner on the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

His outstanding contributions to the field have been recognized through multiple honors, including the AAP’s Gold Medal, Presidential Award, and Outstanding Periodontal Educator Award, as well as the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
